Music + Language Arts = Fun "America" Activity/Assessment
Students match the syllables of these "America" words to the correct rhythm box.
2 eighth notes (beamed)
4 eighth notes
+eighth/two eighths (pickup)
I use this lesson as an introduction to reading/writing/recognizing pickup beats by having students discover the difference between the way we say the words "SEV-en" and "ju-LY".
Ba-RACK is used as an example of an 8th note pickup into a quarter note and O-BAM-a is used as an example of an 8th note pickup into two 8th notes so that the strong syllables land on the strong beats.
Worksheets include color in case you want to project it and have students write their answers on their own. Includes separate Answer Key.
